Plus, a NASA spacecraft captured alien lightning on Jupiter...

The Flag

Good morning, and happy Wednesday. Three patriotic Florida police officers are being hailed for their actions after rescuing and folding two flags that a powerful storm had torn down.

Plus, a NASA spacecraft captured alien lightning on Jupiter. Spooky stuff.

Also, it’s not flashy, but a huge innovation in agriculture might be the future.

It’s not flashy but a huge innovation in agriculture might be the future.

A few years ago, the founders of SusGlobal set out to investigate the growing organic waste crisis. During their research, they uncovered three alarming trends:

  • A staggering amount of organic waste is sent to landfills, where it decomposes anaerobically, releasing methane.

  • The valuable nutrients present in organic waste are lost when they end up in landfills, instead of being returned to the soil.

  • Improper disposal of organic waste can contaminate water sources, posing risks to both the environment and public health.

Realizing the urgency of these issues, the SusGlobal team developed a cutting-edge solution to address them: turning organic waste into high-quality, nutrient-rich fertilizers. Their approach not only reduces methane emission and reduces the impact organic waste has on landfills, it also reduces farmers' dependence on expensive fertilizers.

Joe’s Dough?

Allegations persist against members of the Biden family concerning a “pay for play” influence-peddling scheme, which Republicans say involved then Vice President Biden and his son Hunter. That’s leaving aside the younger Biden’s plea deal that was just announced yesterday for tax and gun charges — which we’ll cover in tomorrow’s newsletter.

Reporting from The Right: Bill Barr: DOJ should release FBI doc alleging Biden bribery scheme to Congress Brianna Herlihy, Fox News

From The Flag: In recent months, Kentucky Representative James Comer and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley have turned up the heat on the Biden family, including a protracted fight with the FBI over a document that allegedly details a $5 million bribe paid by a Ukrainian oil and gas company. Here’s fresh commentary from both sides.

RIGHT-LEANING SENTIMENT

Don’t Pay Attention to the (Alleged) Bribe Behind the Curtain

  • Despite claims of transparency, President Biden and his wife have failed to explain substantial income earned via S-corporations in 2017.

  • The legacy TV networks spent almost five hours covering Trump’s second indictment, but not a single second on Biden’s allegations.

  • As evidenced by a recent moment at Fox News, it’s sad but true: we’re relying on jokesters to do a journalist’s job.

Public Deserves to Know How Biden Made His Millions Bob Anderson, The Federalist: "In the wake of a whistleblower report of a $5 million bribe allegedly accepted by then-Vice President Biden to influence policy in Ukraine, Republican lawmakers are now demanding transparency from the president regarding the substantial income he reported on his 2017 taxes. The questions are long overdue. ... civilian Biden (reported) $9.5 million in income for fiscal year 2017 — almost twice as much as he had earned in the prior 19 years combined. ... (the) accepted premise (is) this money had come from his book deal with Flatiron Books. ... We lack the insight because this money flowed to Joe and Jill Biden by way of two S-corporations that they set up shortly after he left office in 2017... Despite claims that their tax returns had been released, the truth was that they only released their individual returns — not the upstream S-corporations’ returns."

Corrupt Media Can't Save Biden from Bribery Scandal David Marcus, Human Events: "If they weren’t so deeply troubling, the numbers revealed by Media Research Center on the amount of time major network news spent on the alleged Biden bribery scandal would be laughable. Between June 8th and June 12th, the days following the bombshell breaking of the Biden story as well as the announcement of Donald Trump’s second indictment, ABC, CBS, and NBC spent 291 minutes on Trump, and not a single second on the Biden corruption saga. Sadly this pathetic lack of curiosity is not surprising. After all, this is the same liberal media that took two years to admit the Hunter Biden laptop was real, and that only after buying hook, line, and sinker into a fabulous tale of Russian disinformation. All the while, mind you, not a single person in Biden world ever denied the laptop was Hunter’s. Not one time."

LEFT-LEANING SENTIMENT

Republicans’ Allegations Are Short on Evidence

  • While Republicans continue to push these allegations, they’re short on evidence, and the situation hasn’t changed since early May.

  • These claims are backed up by dubious evidence, and Republicans are being hypocritical after their reaction to the Bob Mueller investigation.

  • Republicans have made wild claims regarding alleged “audio tapes” proving Biden took bribes, but now confess they really don’t know.

The GOP ‘bribery’ allegations against Biden remain transparently thin Philip Bump, Washington Post: "... despite incremental new revelations about the (FBI) form and about the push for the form to be released, nothing about the situation has changed from that first (May 3) news release. Republicans are hyping a secondhand allegation from a single source — an allegation that was in the hands of Attorney General William P. Barr’s Justice Department in mid-2020 without leading to criminal charges or, it seems, any specific investigation. It is not hard to figure out why this is unfolding the way it is unfolding. There’s an enormous appetite on the right at the moment for evidence that the FBI and Justice Department are deploying a double standard or that Biden deserves to face criminal charges just as much as former president Donald Trump. That provides the space that Comer and Grassley are filling, running far ahead of their extremely limited evidence."

The ‘whatabout Biden’ defense: What are the allegations made by Trump to deflect from indictment? Dareh Gregorian, Frank Thorp V and Kyle Stewart, NBC News: "As they try to deflect attention from his federal indictment, former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies on Capitol Hill say President Joe Biden and his family members are the ones who should be prosecuted or jailed. ... (and) that the Justice Department had indicted him as a distraction from the 'real crime' — the 'Biden bribery scheme.' (But this) relies on uncorroborated claims from a foreign national and a trusted FBI informant, an alleged suspicious financial transaction, an alleged surreptitious recording and numerous unanswered questions that swirl as partisan lawmakers claim they have damning evidence of criminal activity. Trump and Republicans railed against those things during special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, but are now using similar sources to turn the conversation from Trump’s legal woes to Biden."

How America Sees the Laptop, and the Allegations

Allegations of corruption against the Biden family received further attention earlier this month when National Security Council spokesman John Kirby paused after being asked a question about the matter. Many noted his halting, taken aback response on social media.

Meanwhile, polling data released last month found 59% of voters think “the Hunter Biden laptop is real,” while 41% say “it’s disinformation.”

Along party lines, 79% of Republicans say it’s real, as do 58% of Independents, and 41% of Democrats.

Asked about “influence peddling,” 53% said President Biden has been involved with his son Hunter’s attempts to trade access to the office for cash (Harvard Harris).

U.S. Constitution Ratified, Black-Sand Beaches, An Animal With Nine Brains

On This Day in 1788: New Hampshire becomes the ninth and last necessary state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, thereby making the document the law of the land.

Today I learned octopuses have nine brains – one mini-brain in each arm and another in the center of their bodies. Each arm can independently taste, touch and perform basic movements, but all arms can work together when prompted by the central brain.
