Plus, a record number of Americans are now living alone...

The Flag

Good morning, and happy Wednesday. This new community in North Carolina will require American flags on all of its homes…

Plus, this isn’t something we love sharing, but a record number of Americans are now living alone. If you know someone who falls in this camp, give them a quick buzz just to check in and say hello, especially if it’s a grandparent. You have no idea how much that can mean sometimes.

Also, the solar industry is in the early stages of a massive, decades-long growth surge. Today’s partner can help you capitalize on that trend.

The Renewable Energy Sector is Heating Up

Thanks to a massive, unprecedented $369 billion infusion of government cash, the solar energy market is now projected to triple in just five years.

Within weeks of last summer’s announcement of this historic renewable energy funding, one solar energy index – designed to mimic the industry as a whole –shot up 44.35%.

And that was in the midst of a year that saw the S&P 500 decline by 18.78%…and the Nasdaq plummet 31.72%.

But one little-known company – whose shockingly efficient solar technology appears to be on the verge of causing massive disruption – could offer the potential for collecting windfall profits even if the overall market continues to stumble.

CLIMATE

Hotter Than Satan's House Cat

Record-setting temperatures have been observed in recent weeks, as a blistering heatwave hit the southern US states. In fact, per data gathered by the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction, the planet’s hottest-ever temperatures were recorded over a four-day period last week.

Reporting from the Right: Fourth of July scorched and set a record as the hottest day on Earth Alex Mitchell, New York Post

From The Flag: Much like the wildfires burning in Canada and this week’s extreme storms in the Northeast, climate change is being blamed for this record-setting heat. Here’s fresh commentary from both sides.

LEFT-LEANING SENTIMENT

A Planet and Its People Under Fire

  • There’s no more time for incremental steps as killer heat waves become more frequent globally, and bold action is needed.

  • Things like long heat waves and visible wildfire smoke raise alarm, but the truth is we deal with an unsafe environment everyday.

  • Killer heat waves are becoming longer, hotter, and more frequent across the globe as a result of the industrial age.

Earth is breaking heat records. Now can world leaders get serious about climate change? Editorial Board, LA Times: "Brace yourself. The last three days have probably been the Earth’s hottest on record. Last month was the hottest June ever recorded. Punishing, deadly heat has hit large swaths of the planet, and oceans are experiencing heat waves with surface temperatures hitting new highs. The long-predicted hotter future fueled by climate change is happening now. ... Part of the reason for the higher temperatures is the return of El Niño... but climate change is fueling unprecedented heat waves... frequent flooding and megafires. It’s frightening to see how fast the planet is warming... countries across the globe (are) feeling the effects of extreme weather, including intense heat waves, wildfires and drought. ... The time for incremental steps has passed. World leaders can’t ignore or hope to avoid the pain of global warming now that it’s here. They have an obligation to act."

Wildfire smoke and dirty air are climate change problems: Solutions for a world on fire Drew Shindell, Philadelphia Inquirer Op-ed: "As the eastern United States and Canada reeled from days of thick wildfire smoke in early June, millions of people faced the reality of climate change for the first time. Shocking images of New York under apocalyptic orange skies left many people glued to air quality indexes and wondering whether it was safe to go outside. What they might not realize is that the air many of them breathe isn’t healthy even when wildfire smoke isn’t filling the sky. In fact, the air that 99% of the world’s population breathes is not safe, according to the World Health Organization. Air pollution is everywhere, in cities and in the countryside, visible and invisible. ... There is growing evidence that even low levels of air pollutants damage the human body, increasing the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses like asthma and emphysema, heart disease, and lung cancer."

RIGHT-LEANING SENTIMENT

Phony Baloney “Science” From Enviro Activists

  • Claims of record-breaking heat are largely dubious because they’re either based on a small amount of data or computer modeling.

  • The truth is that “average global temperature” is a meaningless measure, and comparisons to 125,000 years ago are preposterous.

  • Despite crazy predictions that have failed to come true, the insanity around climate policies keeps getting more extreme.

The media is turning up the heat about ‘record’ temperatures for no reason Eddie Scarry, New York Post Opinion: "For anyone who hasn’t stepped outside in the past few days, it is the early days of summer, and it is — appropriately — hot. Or as the perpetual climate geeks are saying: It’s the hottest it’s ever been within the last 120,000 years! After what’s been an unseasonably cool May and June all over the Southwest, we’re told that because it’s now much warmer than in previous early Julys, there’s reason for alarm. 'Some scientists believe July 4 may have been one of the hottest days on Earth in about 125,000 years' ... huffs The Washington Post. 'For four days in a row, the planet reached its hottest day ever recorded' ... ABC News warns. ... (But) claims of 'record-breaking heat' are based on either human global temperature records, which only go back 140 years of our planet’s 4.5-billion-year history, or computer models... If they’re based on human record-keeping, we’re looking at an exceedingly brief period of time."

Hottest Days Ever? Don’t Believe It Steve Milloy, Wall Street Journal Op-ed: "The global-warming industry has declared that July 3 and 4 were the two hottest days on Earth on record. The reported average global temperature on those days was 62.6 degrees Fahrenheit, supposedly the hottest in 125,000 years. ... (This from the) University of Maine’s Climate Reanalyzer, which relies on a mix of satellite temperature data and computer-model guesstimation to calculate estimates of temperature. One obvious problem... there are no satellite data from 125,000 years ago. ... A more likely alternative... is something around 57.5 degrees. The latter is an average of actual surface temperature measurements taken around the world and processed on a minute-by-minute basis... The numbers have been steady this year, with no spike in July. Moreover, the notion of 'average global temperature' is meaningless. ... It is more a political concept than a scientific one. The Earth and its atmosphere is large and diverse, and no place is meaningfully average."

Half of Americans Say Address Climate Change Now

Polling from April shows two-thirds of Americans feel climate change “needs to be addressed” sometime in the coming years, while over half think it’s necessary to take action “right now.”

A quarter of all respondents say it’s not necessary to address climate change.

Asked “why climate change doesn’t need to be addressed,” 79% said other issues are more pressing, 74% said its effects are exaggerated, and 56% say there’s nothing we can do about it anyway (CBS News/YouGov).

Medal of Honor Created, How to Fight Exhaustion, Panama Hat Production

Tri-department medal of honor display

On This Day in 1862: President Abraham Lincoln signs into law a measure calling for the awarding of a U.S. Army Medal of Honor.

Today I learned that Panama hats may take a master weaver up to 8 months to produce, at a price of $200. The best hats can sell outside of Ecuador for 50x what the weaver is paid.
