LEFT-LEANING SENTIMENT
Biden and the Democratic Party’s Prospects are Shaky
- Biden’s innumerable first-term struggles have many Democratic voters and leaders weary about his 2024 prospects.
- Even if Biden decides not to run in 2024, there’s no clear frontrunner among potential Democratic candidates.
- Finding a Democratic candidate could divide the party given the tension between its progressive and establishment camps.
“Should Biden Run in 2024? Democratic Whispers of ‘No’ Start to Rise.” Reid J. Epstein and Jennifer Medina, New York Times: “Midway through the 2022 primary season, many Democratic lawmakers and party officials are venting their frustrations with President Biden’s struggle to advance the bulk of his agenda, doubting his ability to rescue the party from a predicted midterm trouncing and increasingly viewing him as an anchor that should be cut loose in 2024. As the challenges facing the nation mount and fatigued base voters show low enthusiasm, Democrats in union meetings, the back rooms of Capitol Hill and party gatherings from coast to coast are quietly worrying about Mr. Biden’s leadership, his age and his capability to take the fight to former President Donald J. Trump a second time. Interviews with nearly 50 Democratic officials, from county leaders to members of Congress, as well as with disappointed voters who backed Mr. Biden in 2020, reveal a party alarmed about Republicans’ rising strength and extraordinarily pessimistic about an immediate path forward.”
“There Has to Be a Backup Plan. There’s a Backup Plan, Right? Inside the 2024 soul-searching that’s happening in every corner of the Democratic Party.” Gabriel Debenedetti, New York Magazine: “With Trumpism reascendant, ambivalence about Biden’s age and political standing is fueling skepticism … The result is a bizarre disconnect within the Democratic Party, with two factions talking past each other. One group consists of Biden and his loyalists, who are convinced that while the ticket’s numbers are undeniably bleak, they’re historically unsurprising for a president and VP facing their first midterm and will surely bounce back. The second group comprises a broad swath of the Democratic elite and rank and file alike, who suspect that vectors of age, succession, and strategy have created a dynamic with no obvious parallel in recent history. … In the past few months, though, many of the Democratic Party’s biggest donors — even as they pledge to back Biden’s reelection in earnest — have quietly started to poke around for alternatives in 2024, partly out of a sense of responsibility just in case Biden steps aside.”

RIGHT-LEANING SENTIMENT
Biden’s Unlikely to Run — Democrats Won’t Allow It
- There are clear signs that Democrats, particularly progressives, are withdrawing their support for Biden.
- Even Democrats know that a second Biden campaign, let alone a term, would be foolish and likely cause more damage to the party.
- Biden definitely won't run for reelection because of the mounting challenges and failures of his presidency.
“Is there a power struggle within the Democrat Party?” Rajan Laad, American Thinker: “Perhaps that is the plan the Democrat establishment has for the midterms. They first blame Biden solely for all their failures. Next, those contesting during the midterms urge the voters not to punish them for Biden’s failure. Democrat lawmakers in Washington can also claim that not much could be done because they didn’t have the numbers. Finally, they hold issues such as abortion rights, gun control, climate change, and environmentalism as a carrot urging voters to give them a bigger majority and they will deliver. They are effectively informing voters not to worry about Biden because he is history. But in addition to the Democrat establishment distancing themselves from Biden, it also appears that there may be a power struggle within the Democrat party. … AOC openly talks about the generational shift in the United States Congress and the need to do away with the older establishment candidates…’”
“A Biden Reelection Campaign Is Too Absurd Even For Democrats, Media Is Turning On Him” Tucker Carlson, Fox News: “What kind of president would Joe Biden be by the year 2028? You shudder to think about that, though you can bet that more Botox and hair plugs would not improve him. The whole idea is grotesque. Weekend at Bernie's White House Edition. It's an insult to the principle of self-government, but that doesn't mean it's not coming. … Just for the sake of amusement this morning we tried to find a Democratic Party official who be willing to go on the record to endorse a second Joe Biden candidacy and we couldn't find a single one. … A Biden reelection campaign is just too absurd, even for them. It strains credulity past the breaking point. Joe Biden? Come on. That's the consensus in Washington … They know he will lose.”

FLAG THIS
Second Run for Biden is Unpopular
According to a poll from early March, 52% of registered voters don’t think Biden will run again. Alternatively, only 29% think he will (Wall Street Journal).
Polling also tends to be unfavorable for Biden, as far as how Americans’ feel about a potential second run. In January 70% said they don't want Biden to run in 2024 (AP/NORC).
Even Biden’s own party seems opposed to his running again. A poll from earlier this year found a slim majority (51%) of registered Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents wanted someone other than Biden to run (CNN/SSRS).

I don’t expect him to run again because his health will not allow it. He can’t hide in his basement this time and win by default. You can’t vote for someone running the country like this and call yourself American. Sometimes it’s not about R or D but doing what is better for the country and no way is Biden better for the country in any way.
Agree!
If he runs that would guarantee a Republican victory. He’s obviously severely impaired both politically and physically. I would think the Dems are smart enough to know running Biden again would be a debacle.
No! The man can’t even tie his shoes. In 2 more years this country will be even worse off. This man is a disaster. This is what we get when we elect a person who has been in government for 50 years. Our country is going in a bad direction. I amazed people really thought this man was capable of running the country. I guess hate makes people do stupid things.
I can’t imagine the Democrats would even think of having Biden run again. He’s been the worst president The United States has ever had. He’s not running the country anyway. He’s just a puppet for those who are running the country and the world.
No, strategically it would be a disaster for the Democrats and their liberal socialist and communist friends.
I agree with the comments of the other contributors. My bigger concern is who both parties will nominate. In my opinion, we need a group of younger, brighter and more energetic leaders who are committed to solving the problems we all face. Not trying to secure their place in history or placate the most radical wing of their parties. As noted in one of the comments, it is time to think of the country not party.
Good point. But where are they?
I’m betting he will try to run since he’s been acting quite contrary lately and his ego is immense. Couple that with his failure to acknowledge and accept diverse opinions. If that happens his party will be thrown into disarray unless they have him run with a suitable VP to try to pull him up from the bottom which probably won’t help much other than the fact that the majority of voters are Democrats. I am not sure how they plan to stop him. AOC is not worth listening to – many of us are not sure why the media keeps her in the limelight. She’s one of those young people who think they can fix the world – like every generation thinks when they are her age – and no one’s fixed it yet. Everyone thought Kennedy would bring youth and expertise to the presidency and he made too many youthful, egotistical blunders that were explained away by the media. So Biden and Kennedy are at two ends of the age spectrum and prove age has nothing to do with stupidity and moral failure.
