RIGHT-LEANING SENTIMENT
Challenging the Story’s Veracity, Though Some Are Concerned
- Some have already come forward to challenge the truthfulness of the story, making this another dud in a long line of Trump “bombshells.”
- It’s true that the committee is partisan and biased, but Republicans can’t ignore how voters will respond to Trump’s conduct.
- This highlights the ridiculous “kangaroo court” nature of these hearings, as the most significant part of Hutchinson’s testimony included hearsay.
“Another J6 Trump 'Bombshell' Outed as a Hoax!” Matt Margolis, PJ Media: “On Tuesday, the liberal media soiled themselves over the so-called bombshell story that on January 6, 2021, President Trump grabbed the steering wheel of the presidential limo and then lunged at a Secret Service agent because he wanted to join the protesters at the Capitol. … CNN gleefully described it as a bombshell, yet, like so many other Trump bombshells, it appears this incident didn’t happen at all, and is yet another hoax to add to the pile of bogus anti-Trump stories. According to Peter Alexander, the chief White House correspondent for NBC News, sources close to the Secret Service dispute the story. ‘A source close to the Secret Service tells me both Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver are prepared to testify under oath that neither man was assaulted and that Mr. Trump never lunged for the steering wheel,’ Alexander tweeted Tuesday evening.”
“More Testimony on Trump’s Jan. 6 Tirade” Editorial Board, Wall Street Journal: “It’s difficult to know how much this story is leaving out, since the committee isn’t releasing full transcripts of its interviews. There’s also no questioning from Republicans who boycotted the committee. But some of the testimony is firsthand, such as when Ms. Hutchinson said she saw a White House valet cleaning up food and broken dishes that Mr. Trump had thrown in a rage about the election. Ms. Hutchinson is a former intern for GOP Whip Steve Scalise and Sen. Ted Cruz. She is speaking under oath. Democrats want to use the Jan. 6 investigation to paint the entire Republican Party as a gang of insurrectionist nuts. The committee is steeped in partisanship. But that doesn’t mean Republicans should look away from the considerable evidence it is producing about Mr. Trump’s behavior that would surely be relevant to voters if he runs in 2024.”

LEFT-LEANING SENTIMENT
Trump Encouraged Violence and Tried to Lead Coup
- The January 6 hearings had already shown Trump knowingly advanced false claims of election fraud, this indicates he encouraged violence.
- Hutchinson’s account notes Trump did not object when the crowd started chanting “hang Mike Pence.”
- This was truly bombshell testimony that directly links Trump to the conspiracy aimed at overturning the 2020 election.
“Why Cassidy Hutchinson's Jan. 6 testimony blew the roof off Trump's defense” Hayes Brown, MSNBC Opinion: “Cassidy Hutchinson, a 25-year-old former aide to Trump's White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, blew the roof off of the committee room with her testimony. Hutchinson testified that her former boss seemed downright blasé toward the chance of violence on Jan. 6. She revealed that Trump was aware of weapons in the crowd he was addressing. She relayed how Trump, insistent on marching to the Capitol with the mob he'd whipped up, tried to grab the steering wheel from his driver. And she confirmed that Trump approved of the chants to ‘hang Mike Pence.’ … Most of the hearings so far have focused on the fact that Trump knew what he was saying about election fraud was a lie even as he pressured officials to reverse the results. Hutchinson showed that Trump was not only aware of the potential violence, he was encouraging it.”
“The Most Damning January 6 Testimony Yet” David A. Graham, The Atlantic: “Her account establishes that Trump knew the crowd was armed and understood they were there to threaten or harm someone—specifically, his opponents—and that he wanted them to march on the Capitol with those weapons. … Trump refused to lift a finger to stop the violence. When the top White House lawyer told Chief of Staff Mark Meadows that the president had to act, Meadows replied, according to Hutchinson, ‘He doesn’t want to do anything.’ Later, when rioters chanted that Pence should be hanged, Hutchinson recalled, Meadows told the same lawyer, ‘He thinks Mike deserves it. He doesn’t think they’re doing anything wrong.’ … Hutchinson’s testimony also indicated that Trump desperately wanted to go to the Capitol with the rioters, and perhaps enter the building. When he was not allowed to do so, he was livid, trying to grab the wheel of the presidential limousine and lunging at a Secret Service agent.”

Should Charges be Recommended?
A poll was conducted following last Thursday’s January 6 hearing in which 52% of respondents said they believed the DOJ should prosecute former President Trump for his role in that day’s events (Yahoo News/YouGov).
In a separate survey the number was even higher (58%), with 80% of Democrats supporting prosecution compared to just 8% of Republicans (ABC News/Ipsos).

Criminal charges for what? If the media would just be fair and report all the details it would clearly show that he did not promote this and even had the foresight to request more protection for the capital. If charges get filed just like all the other times he will be found not guilty. This is just a plan by Democrats to try and stop him from running for President again because they are scared to death of him!
I agree. As soon as I read this I knew it wasn’t plausible, why didn’t the media immediately debunk it? The Dems just keep making things up trying to smear Trump and I think they’re going to find this backfires in a huge way. Media bias is so blatant at this point I doubt anybody actually believes anything they say.
Absolutely not because most of it is twisted lies and hate for Trump. The little princess who whined about this wasn’t even there to know what went on. She is just hoping to get a better cushy job with the government – which she will now. She should be investigated and charged with lying. How about charging those inciting people to burn and steal because of perceived racism and/or abortion “rights”? How is that human and legal? How about charging those who had nothing else to do but stand outside the chief justices’ homes in violation of federal law? How about charging the Fed Attorney General for colluding with the Democrats and not doing his job? How about charging Pelosi for being on the take with investing in stocks based on prior knowledge and activity she pushes thru as law? Finally, anyone who should be charged is Hillary who commandeered “the LIE” (Russian collusion with the Trump election committee). She and her cronies falsified statements to Federal officials, her lawyers lied and paid off people to lie. Her FBI who works for her, it seems, colluded too – at least the top people did – probably not most of the bottom. That was a coup. Morons on the left believe a coup means only having arms and guns because they are actually morons. I only hope that if Republicans or independents win in the next election that they hold incessant 4 year-long trials of all of these people in the public eye and take over the media temporarily so that the Democrats can view their own trash morality constantly and realize what they are – not even human beings. And bring to light that some of the intel community is not interested in maintaining American ideals but instead are facists and communists filled with bias and hate and are so ego-centric they can’t fathom they are ever wrong about how they interpret the intelligence they think they received.
No, and it has nothing to do with evidence. Prosecuting any elected official for inciting a riot sets a dangerous precedent. Many 2nd and 3rd world countries, as well as communist and socialist countries regularly imprison political opponents which ultimately leads to a totalitarian government. We fought our revolution in the 18th century to rid ourselves of a monarch that was totalitarian and we need to ensure we never go back. Our constitution gives us the right to protest, if a riot breaks out, only those who actually participate in the riot should be arrested then given their due process for defending themselves. Regardless of what political side we identify with, prosecuting an elected official for expressing their opinion is dangerous.
Our Bills of Rights are ABSOLUTE rights that cannot be denied. If we go down the road of some speech is more equal than other speech, we have lost our country’s ideals it was founded upon.
I feel it quite amazing that they are trying to prosecute Trump for inciting a riot on January 6th when there is more evidence of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden inciting the race riots after the George Floyd incident. How many people died in those riots compared to the January 6th incident?
The January 6th proceedings is nothing but a witch hunt for Trump. I don’t believe they should press charges and they don’t even have substantial evidence or proof to press charges. They have already tried to impeach Trump and failed. Now they are just trying to slander his name to reduce his popularity in the upcoming election.
I am not a fan of the man himself, but I truly don’t believe charges are justifiable in this case.
If it can be proved that Trump violated the Law, then he should be indicted and face the charges…standing trial like any other citizen. But to date there is no evidence of a crime. And, the Jan. 6 committee seems more intent on smearing Trump than actually finding evidence of a crime. The ink on the testimony of Cassidy was barely dry when the Secret Service challenged it and offered to testify under oath. So it appears she lied in that part of her testimony; if so, what else might she have lied about?
No, only one side of the story is being told and they’re not even playing the full transcript of what President Trump said at the rally that he had before people started heading towards the capital building. President Trump told them to peacefully protest. He also authorized the National Guard to be there and that was turned down by some unknown personnel as far as I can tell from the reports that I’ve read. This whole effort, especially when they denied two republican congressmen from being part of the team, for the January 6 probe, has all been one-sided and it is all with the goal of not allowing President Trump to run again for president. Additionally, what weapons are they referring to? The only weapons were held by the police, there were no guns at the Capitol other than what police officers had. Need I say more!!!
Personally I am sick of hearing about it
History had shown it is not a good idea to prosecute politicians after they are out of office. One of the reasons Rome of old lost its Republic is due to incessant lawsuits against politicians after they were out of office. No matter which side of the Trump question, even regardless of the presence or absence of criminal behavior or intent, prosecution would not be of benefit to the country.
Granted it all makes for good circus, but the country has more serious issues to consider, ant this sideshow is getting in the way.
Why face charges for telling the truth? What about Hillary Clinton who still claims the election was rigged.
