RIGHT-LEANING SENTIMENT
An Attempt at Intimidation, and a Fitting Violation of Privacy
- The goal behind leaking the draft was to hopefully intimidate the court’s conservative majority and cause Roe v. Wade to be upheld through threats of violence and destructive chaos.
- A left-leaning court employee likely leaked the draft, showing progressives are willing to torch all norms and decorum in order to get their way.
- It’s truly fascinating Roe v. Wade was based on a right to privacy, given the private nature of Supreme Court deliberations was upended by this leaked draft.
“Draft Supreme Court Majority Opinion Leaks STRIKING DOWN Roe v. Wade. Here’s What All Of That Means.” Ben Shapiro, Daily Wire Opinion: “The draft opinion, which is almost certainly authentic … would amount to a reversion of all abortion law to the state level, where it originally resided. But there is another issue, here, too: who leaked the draft decision? This is not an ancillary issue … The attempt to leverage public pressure against the justices is an attempt to strangle the Alito majority opinion in the crib, to generate fractures on the Court. Were the final Court decision to depart widely from Alito’s draft now, it would be crystal clear that public pressure played the main role. And that is the reason the draft was leaked. The Supreme Court, which supposedly is above petty politics, will now be subjected to a tsunami of threats from a snarling left-wing enraged by the prospect of restrictions on killing in the womb.”
“On Roe: Thank You, Donald Trump” Rod Dreher, The American Conservative: “We cannot have the inner workings of the Supreme Court turned into a partisan football. If I am correct to guess that this leak emerged from the Court’s left flank, then this is probably another example of how the Left believes that when its core interests are threatened, it has no obligation to play by settled rules. You might recall that a liberal journalist told me last year that the election in 2016 of Donald Trump was such a shocking event to the media class that they concluded they had no obligation to strive to live by the standard rules of professional fairness in reporting. We see this everywhere that wokeness has come to power: old-fashioned liberal rules of fair play, free speech, and the like are construed as nothing more than a cover for evil people to impose their power on the oppressed.”

LEFT-LEANING SENTIMENT
Anger and Outcry Won’t Make a Difference as SCOTUS has Roe in Sights
- It’s likely this draft is legit and signals the end of Roe v. Wade, as even public outcry and negative blowback won’t change the conservative majority’s thinking.
- While the right to have an abortion should be viewed as established law, increasing access to birth control is also important, despite Republican opposition.
- As the Supreme Court prepares to plunge America into the neo-Dark Ages, it could have been avoided: if Ruth Bader Ginsburg had retired when former President Obama was in office.
“Yes, the Theocrats on the Court Really Are Going to Overturn Roe v. Wade” Elie Mystal, The Nation: “Forced-birth advocates are finally about to achieve something they’ve worked toward for decades. It now appears certain that the Supreme Court will revoke abortion rights and return pregnant people to the status of second-class citizens: mere incubators who lack the right to control the fate of their own bodies. … It’s highly unusual for a Supreme Court opinion to be leaked before it is released. It’s so unusual that nobody can say for certain how close this draft opinion is to being a reality. … The only other question then is whether one of the five conservatives will blink in the face of public reaction. I do not think that is likely. … They won’t back down now. Anything short of a riot is unlikely to make the justices think twice about upending 50 years of judicial precedent.”
“What American Mothers Really Need” Margaret Renkl, New York Times Op-ed: “I’ve been watching anti-abortion bills sweep the red states this season, and it occurs to me that the week of Mother’s Day might be a good time for a red-state mother like me to weigh in. … First, a reminder: Women ended unwanted pregnancies long before Roe v. Wade made abortion safe and legal in the United States, and women will continue to do so even if Roe is overturned. During the 1950s and ’60s, before reliable birth control became widely available, between 200,000 and 1.2 million women illegally ended unwanted pregnancies in the United States each year. To make a real difference in the abortion rate, birth control needs to be affordable and easy to obtain. Instead, our legislators consistently fight to protect employers and insurance companies that want to opt out of paying for birth control in health care plans.”

I just don’t understand all the hooplah. So control of abortion rights moves back to the states where is was before. When did people get the idea that state government can’t do as good or better a job than the federal government? Tell me one thing the federal government has done a better job at than the states? Please don’t say education because the facts prove that they have completely destroyed education in this country. Might it be time for education to go back to the states as well?
Absolutely, Roe v. Wade should be overturned. It should never have been legislated from the Supreme Court in the first place. I still do not understand what goes through a thinking mind regarding this whole subject of abortion. Abortion is the killing of a human life when would the killing of human life be enter into consideration? It appears since we have become really lax concerning murder in terms of what kind of sentence a person gets. If someone purposely takes a life then their life should be taken. This is the only legitimate taking of a human life. Human life is precious and we must protect it from all kinds of evil. The killing of plants and animals is a legitimate use of our resources for the benefit of humans.
Yes. With the means to prevent pregnancy easily available we should not be killing unborn children. And I think the federal government has far overstepped their mandate. The states should control almost everything. The simple solution is to make birth control free. And this leak is horrific. I hope they prosecute those responsible to the full extent of the law.
I do support Roe’s overruling. The Roe decision was flawed from the very beginning as the leaked opinion notes. What I believe is simply that abortion should be left to each state to decide how the issue should be handled. That is the democrat way to resolve this issue. Democracy in action. What I can never understand is: why is the Left seemingly so afraid to let the democratic process work?
Because they want to control us. Watch Hillary’s America. Very enlightening. I’m amazed how much I didn’t know about the Dems and why they support abortion.
I can’t speak to the legalities of this decision but morally I think it’s reprehensible to even have allowed abortions except in emergency type situations. It’s murder. As far as this law and returning the decision to the states – do the people asking for riots on this actually understand what this decision is about? What that has to do with Trump is really distorting the truth. And is the person responsible for the leak and fingered by social media getting grilled by the DOJ? And the justice he works for being called to step down? Also, is the DOJ going after those who are asking for riots and violence in the media and the politicians threatening the justices? Or is violence the way of these baby killers anyway. Oh… I guess so. Obviously killing with a (gasp) gun is so low-class next to handing a baby to a “medical” killer where you don’t have to watch what s/he does to your child as its being torn apart – medically of course.
No. On the larger scale Healthcare issues and personal choices should not be part of politics to begin with. This is not a political issue. If someone’s believes or religion precludes them from doing something, from eating pork to having an abortion, it should be their personal right, and not something government to meddle with
Yes. Unless a constitutional amendment is adopted guaranteeing abortion rights, there’s nothing in the constitution that speaks to it specifically and as such this decision falls to the states. Using the right of privacy as the prevailing opinion in Roe stretched the meaning of privacy and discounted the rights of the unborn.
